Lil-o-ween

Lil is naht of fan of dress up. Unfortunately for her, her mom is.

Dressing up pups is pretty much the best part of Halloween. And you didn't think I'd let you get thru this wonderful holiday without sharing Lil pictures did you?!
Poor tin. At this point she has no idea what she was in for. This wasn't even taken on Halloween, I just saw the costume on sale at Target.com and bought it. By the time her first real Halloween came around she was too big to fit in the costume anyway. Whatevs tho. She's cute.

So here she is on her first real Halloween. A little too small. Although she looks the same amount of uncomfortable.
This was her most fitting costume. She didn't appreciate the suggestion that she was a bad dog but this was during her "off the fucking wall, drive my mom to lose her shit constantly" phase so it really worked.

Then we dressed her up as Superpup. Obviously she hated that too. But then I had a brilliant idea.
I mean, we didn't do anything because it was a Wednesday night or something. But when Lil was all dressed up and adorable, no respectable dog mom would allow a photo opp like this to pass. I made Tom put on his Superman jammies and then snapped away. How amazing is that picture tho?

And thru the years, she's been dressed up like a princess a fewwww times.

This is one of my favorites. This is when she was really tiny. This little party princess tutu is a kitten dress! No way she could fit in that now. Honestly, she would Hulk the shit out of it.
Anutie L bought her her this crown and I obviously fell in love with it. Infact, it won her Smiler Of The Week on the daily bark. NBD GUYS.
I wanted to buy this one at the pet store but Tom said no. So I made Lil try it on. It looked phenom, obv.

This year, her auntie got her an amazing Halloween party collar and I'm obsessed with it.

Also this year, Lil got THE most adorable coat (she gets cold on her walks ok?!) and I will be sharing more about that later. Besides dying when we got it because it's so cute I thought- DUH Lil could be a ladybug! But I didn't get her a little antenna headband so she's just warm and cute for Halloween.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

And now for a treat (not a trick-get it?!) I have a hilarious girl who blogs about her life, her dogs and the ridiculousness that comes with living pretttty far from the big city. You'll want to check her out. You can thank me later.

1. When and why did you start blogging?
I thought about blogging for a long time before I actually started a blog. When I started blogging back in February, I was recently engaged and figuring out my new life in the country. I wanted a place to document how different rural living was from anything I was used to, as well as my destination wedding planning adventures. It quickly morphed into a place for me to just spew about life, and I’m so glad! It feels more like “me” now that I’m not boxing myself into a select few topics.

2. What is your favorite post you've written and why?

Hmm...this is a hard one. I had a lot of fun writing a post (for a Tall Tails link-up actually!) in which I narrated the dogs’ thoughts and determined that they would be potty-mouths if they could talk. I also loved a post that I wrote about how grateful I am that I started blogging, and one where I shared quirky facts about my awesome husband-to-be, Mr. B.
 3. What has been the best part about decorating your new house? Did you post about it?

Making it our home. We’ve made so many changes, (we replaced 90% of the flooring and repainted every room in the house) and now it feels like “us”. We made the decisions and did all of the work together, so now we have a home that really reflects who we are – and I love it! I haven’t posted much about it yet, but I plan to show off before and after photos soon!

Tall Tails: What Miley Could Learn From Our Dogs

So I think things have started to settle down after the twerking tornado that is Miley Cyrus "performed" at the VMAs. So I'm wondering, is she gonna try and top herself? Or is she gonna calm her shit and take it back a few notches? I mean she has her (ex?) fiance and her pups to think about. And maybe if she spent some more time with her dogs instead of foam fingers and over sized teddy bears, she could learn a few things.

1. Having you're tongue out is cute
only if you do it the right way

2. When you get a hair cut you regret, that's ok
just don't make it worse with gel.

3. Make an outfit outrageous by accessories,
not by wearing a mouse/bear thing leotard.

4. If you wanna show your support for someone/something,
wear a jersey, don't violate a foam finger

5. When you make faces, try and be cute/silly
rather than scary/creepy

6. Playing with stuffed toys is only ok when you're a puppy or
a kid because otherwise it's weird.

7. When rolling around on the floor, try to look innocent
and fun loving, not like you're trippin' ballz

8. When swimming, use appropriate swimwear and accessories.

It's easy when you're in the spotlight to get confused and start doing really strange things. But, if you just look at yourself in a mirror and ask, "Would my dog approve of what I'm doing?" If the answer is "yes", continue on your merry way. If it's "no" then stop twerking.

Tall Tails: Lil + Auntie L, BFF

I don't know about your dogs but our dog knows people's names.

Lil knows "daddy" aka Tom, "mom" aka me, "friends" aka kennel, "Oscar" aka my grandmother's dog and the most exciting name to mention,

Auntie.

I think Lil likes Tom's sister L wayyyy better than Tom or I. We ask if she wants to "go see Auntie" and she goes fucking ballistic.

L is a puppy person thru and thru and instantly bonded with Lil. I think Lil is her spirit animal.

She does what all auntie's should. Shower Lil with cookies, pet her whenever she's around, dote over how cute she is.

She even took care of Lil while Tom and I were in Dallas for a week (while babysitting her family dog at the same time in the same house!) She's basically Lil's biggest fan.

Even after eating those Uggs she has on, Auntie still loved her little neicey. Even (more accurately, especially) when she's had a few glasses of wine, L is the "fun aunt." She wants Lil to have what she wants. Including cuddles on the couch during sleepovers.

The trouble is, Auntie is leaving. She and her husband are moving to Santa Barbara. They will only be there a few years, but Lil will miss her like cray. Don't get me wrong, when I need Lil to do something, I'll still say, "OK! Wanna go see Auntie!?" even tho it's incredibly unfair.

Lil, Tom and I will be at their family cottage all next week enjoying some beach time and relaxation. This year, Lil won't have her Auntie there with her tho and I know she'll be immeasurably upset by it. They snuggle so often and play so much that Lil will undoubtedly be confused about where Auntie is.

L and Lil are basically BFF and I know that each of them will miss the other so much! What L doesn't realize is that we're already looking into shipping costs for cross continental puppy trips. We wouldn't mind a staycation while Lil and L enjoy each others company. Thursday night we say goodbye to Auntie and Uncle and it will be a sad night. Although I don't think we could go too long without a visit.

ALSO! Yesterday was #NationalDogDay. I didn't know til I checked Instagram. then I spent literally a half hour having a selfie photo shoot with Lil. So if you didn't know yesterday was National Dog Day, then celebrate today and give your pup a hug and kiss!

Tall Tails: Let Sleeping Lils Lie

Lil is ALWAYS going bezerk. She was being a super brat tonight for a while but now, she's curled up fast asleep.

She's so cute when she's asleep.

But so much of the time she seems uncomfortable. Here are some sleepy moments that I've caught on camera. I'm warning you, she isn't a modest lady, so it may get a bit graphic.

Don't worry, we got her a bigger crate. She still sleeps upside down tho.

She's gotten bigger and bigger and my car seems to be getting smaller and smaller! She isn't happy about it. She cries on rides home now. Also yes, that's Buzz Ballads. It was a gift for a friend.

When she's tired, she can fall asleep anywhere. Foot stool that's not big enough to hold her? Yup. On the couch using the side table as a pillow? Yup.

She typically passes out on the couch tho. It's tough being a pup. Also sorry for all the puppy private parts shots..

Anyway, the couch is supposed to be her bed at night butttttt she's been jumping up to sleep with Tom and I and I usually don't notice until we're spooning and she twitches. Oops.

It started with her jumping into my spot after I would get out of bed in the morning.

But now she doesn't wait and I wake up to her breathing on my face. Wonderful.

Tall Tails: Ways That Lil Is Just Like Her Mommy

For those of you with pets, particularly those who share them with your significant other, how often do you attribute their traits to the fact that they were inherited from one of you? Like, "Lil's so judgy! She totally gets that from you." Well we do that a lot. And I've found that many of the reasons I want to return her I get frustrated with her are things that Tom often tells me I do.

I can make no other conclusion than to say, Lil has learned a lot of how to handle her life from me. Thing is, that's not always a good thing.

1. dresses to impress
the prettiest ballerina
2. high maintenance
"duh I should have more treats and toys, I'm a princess, duhhh"
3. always ready to eat
"kung pow chicken anyone?
4. lush
"oops the bottle's gone? how did that happen?"
5. whiny
"guyssssss just let me outtttttt"
6. know-it-all
"mom I know how to get there! lay off!"
7. impatient
"throw the kong. just do it. come on. do it. hurry up."
8. dramatic
"ahhh the pain is almost too much to bear. I just don't think I can go on"
9. judgy
"mom are you seriously gonna wear that out? you look like a hobo."
10. freakin adorable
see? samsies.
Poor Tom. He has to deal with both of us. Really tho, I'm pretty sure the other half of the craziness that is Lil comes from him.
